How Do Your Employees See And Demonstrate Your Brand?
By Kelly Scholls, CPI Plumbing and Heating, Mount Vernon, WA
In my last article I talked about how your brand is perceived in the community through social media. This week I would like to build on that and talk about how your brand and culture is seen through the eyes of your employees.
At CPI Plumbing and Heating we have worked hard and tried for years to build a company that values its employees and customers as much as our own families. We take pride in knowing that we are perceived in the community as a professional company that does care about our customers and gives back to the community. We realize that we cannot do that without total buy in from each and every employee. And, believe me, we have not always had that from them all.
Through a lot of trial & error, seminars, conferences, coaching, and training we have built the type of company from top to bottom that each employee can be proud of. We work every day to be better and improve from the day before. From keeping the vehicles clean each day to making sure the office and warehouse are cleaned and updated as well, we pay attention to the details.
Walk around your company each morning and try looking at it through your customers eyes and ask yourself, is this the type of company that I would want to do business with?
While doing that you should be checking in with each employee you come in contact with. Ask how they are doing, encourage them, thank them and wish them a great day. While you’re there, give them a hand loading up or washing their vehicle and make sure things are picked up and clean around the office and warehouse. You are always setting the example, make it a positive one.
Be persistent in building that brand and culture every day and do what you have to so that every employee understands it and even embraces it.
Here is a letter written and posted recently on Facebook by one of our employees.06/19/2014 Figured it’s probably time for a review from an employee of CPI Plumbing and Heating. I have been working for CPI since December of 2012, I can honestly say this is the best company I have ever worked for. The ownership and management at CPI truly care that their employees are well taken care of on a professional and personal level. We take part in voluntary training on a daily basis before we start our work day; during this training we learn about current practices, product knowledge, and personal improvement. This company actually arranged for us, as employees, to participate in Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University; because of this course I can say I am a much happier person and a better husband and father. When you do business with CPI you are doing business with local individuals who prefer to also use other local individuals for their needs.
If you want your employees to live and breathe the Brand and Culture you work hard to build, treat them with respect and show them the way.
