4th Quarter-Finish Strong!

Kids back in school, summer has ended, and football season is well under way. These are all indications that we’ve moved into the 4th quarter of our businesses year. If we want to finish strong, now is the time. As I see it there are 2 areas that directly impact how our company will finish the year. Individual contributions and team contributions.
As an individual on a team there are some questions worth asking yourself:
- When the quarter is over how will we all be able to recognize the part that you played in the strong finish?
- What actions going forward will position you as a strong contributor?
To finish strong means doing more than you’ve done to get to this point. It also means building on prior contributions.
As a team, a strong finish requires encouragement and support from each other to keep everyone strong individually and working as a whole.
This reminds me of a story I heard of a female runner who held many records throughout her track career and even made it to the Olympics. She had just won the equivalent to a 1 mile race and was preparing for the 2 mile, which everyone had her picked to win. As the story goes, she stumbled off the starting block and was in last place going into the final turn. She was competing with some of the best runners in the world and never had finished a race in last place her entire life. As she was gaining on the pack a runner in front of her fell securing her from a last place finish. She passed the fallen runner, stopped, turned around and helped her up. She supported her to the finish line a few feet away and gently pushed her to cross the finish line ahead of her.
Though we have individual responsibilities as members of our team, let us never forget how important each one of us is to the whole as we finishing strong together.
A combination of these things will allow us to stand together at the end of 2013 and say WE DID IT!
