Knowledge is Power? NOT!
Earlier this month, as you may know, Christy and I spent some time overseas in the United Kingdom. I love to travel and experience new perspectives and cultures. You’d think I’d love this because I get to learn about other people, their way of living and how they choose to live their daily lives. However, the reality is that I love it so much because I get to take a good look at myself and my own life and businesses. I think we should all do this more often than we do.
Here we are heading into a holiday weekend in the States. The big Labor Day weekend! The official calendar signal that summer has once again waned and it’s time to put away the boats and summer toys to get good and ready for whatever Old Man Winter may bring us all this year.
School is back in session, the leaves will be turning soon and winter will set in. Of course the setting changes based on your own market that you serve and where you live, but you certainly know what I’m talking about here. Slow season is upon us in many markets all over the country now, and it may be coming your way if you’re not there yet.

Last week I spoke to you about the fact that it’s your move now. This week I want you to take a moment and think about a couple things:
Knowledge is NOT power
Most of us grew up with the belief that knowledge is power. Go to school, get good grades, learn a lot of stuff and life is going work flawlessly, right? HA! How’s that working out for a lot of the world? It’s not about knowledge, it’s about implementation! One of our mastermind clients is now hitting new highs. He’s belonged to other industry best practice groups that have a TON of information, so what’s the deal with him? He’s made a decision to take massive action when it comes to what he’s learning and re-learning so he’s getting different results.
Apply the Pareto Principle
I won’t spend time today with the history and where the Pareto Principle came from, but it’s basically the 80/20 rule. The rule that says 80% of your results will come from 20% of your actions. It may not always break down to be exactly these percentages, but you will always get the lion’s share of your results from a smaller part of your actions. Most of your sales come from a few of your team members. Most of your headaches come from a few of your team members too. Heck sometimes these two examples are from the same people!
How are you spending your time? Are you moving mountains or mole hills? Is your training working? Find some extra clarity this weekend as you kick your feet up and enjoy yourself a little bit. Evaluate your effort vs. your results and make a decision to commit to a new process if necessary. Simplify, cut out tasks you do that don’t have any ROI and get after the tasks that grow the business!
